Hiring the Lyric
The Lyric is a beautiful, unique, quirky venue in the centre of Bridport, packed full of atmosphere and history, making it an ideal venue for artists to come and make, and showcase, their work. Our occasional rather than regular performance programme allows for the space to be dedicated for longer residencies so we won’t usually kick you out at a particular time. We are an artist-led team so we want to support artists as much as possible and therefore we prioritise hires for artists’ work. For more commercial hires, please click here.

Artist hires
We offer artists self-contained access to our auditorium hall with stage, heaters, stage lighting and sound facilities. Our recently reinstated windows allow the hall to flood with natural daylight. With a list of nearby digs, The Lyric has been the venue of choice for many brilliant artists and companies in which to rehearse, R&D, set build and try out their work to a discerning audience. These have ranged from a few days to 8 weeks over the summer. Surrounded by the coast and countryside, Bridport provides a breath of fresh air for city artists!
If you wish to hire the Lyric for your practice please send us an email with your preferred timeframe and outlining your requirements: admin@the-lyric.com.
Commercial hires
We have limited availability where it is possible to hire The Lyric to fit around our programme of performances as well as artist residencies. We focus on activities that are arts-based or have creativity at their core, and that are a good fit for The Lyric. On occasion we allow hire for other events such as birthday parties, wedding receptions, conferences, film or photo shoots, but availability is limited. Please drop us a line with your hire requirements: admin@the-lyric.com. Rates are dependent on your event and requirements.
Hires for regular/weekly classes
As a theatre creation space we prioritise the Lyric’s space being used for artist hires, which range from a few days to several weeks, alongside our performance programme and they use the space independently of requiring a member of staff to be present. Other one-off hires are accommodated where possible. However, regular weekly hires for classes proved difficult for us to accommodate as a rule, and the costs associated (plus staff availability) are therefore not usually viable. A village hall with a schedule of availability on an hourly rate is usually a better fit for this sort of activity.
